The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Design Contest WIN 4000 POINTS, 20$ AND MORE!I've wanted to hold a design contest for a long time now, and finally I've gathered enough points to do it

What I'm looking for:
Everything! Wolves, foxes, fennec foxes, ferrets, servals, bobcats, tigers, other big cats, small cats, deers, dragons, gryphons, dogs, birds, hybrids, original species.. bring it!
I'm leaving the details to your imagination, but here are some things I really like:
-White base color with black and red markings<33 (mostly on canines)
-Cute and fluffy things! No need to go all big eyes and oversized heads, but animals with fur. Creepy and slimy things just aren't my thing.. Still don't be afraid to make something dark/evil
-Anything tribal
-Native american stuff
-Feathers!
-Tawny, golden, brown, white, red, blue, cyan, gray, black (well, not all combined)
-I like more natural base colors, but with smaller markings in unnatural colors like blue or red
-Long tails, big/long

Callibrate your Wacom tutorialHad you finally made the transition from intuos 3 to intuos 4?, or Are you rich to change into an intuos 5? Had you made the transition from a first generation cintiq to the new ones?. More levels of pressure will mean more quality to the paintings, am i right?.
Did you thought that by default the pen will it be like using butter on bread?, you try it for the first time and you love all of it, you said i have sooooooo much control on my strokes im having a blast. Then only to realize you only have total control of the brush but when you are moving it really slow?. But when you do quick strokes the pressure drops a lot of paint making you redraw tons of stuff?
Did you ever thought that painter its hard to handle with new tablet? Too much pressure? If it has more pressure why i cant control more easier the beggining of the stroke which is more crucial?.

tragic news.

i'm sure those of you who follow me on tumblr have seen my posts, but i'll summarize what happened.

on Sunday morning, around 4 am, a few students from my school were involved in a car accident that took the lives of WPHS students Krysta Howell ('15) and Tim See ('12). Krysta was one of the freshman cheerleaders, and as a bright and energetic athlete, Tim was very popular.
the night of the crash, there was a candlelight vigil involving over 300 people from the Wyoming community. many of my friends were extremely close with the young men and women in that car, and it turns out Trevor (one of the dancers from my previous journal) was related to Krysta.

the year is just winding down, and everyone was scrambling to get ready for graduation, summer, and college.

to end our high school career, there was a senior prank planned for tonight, and a senior trip on the 24th, but everything is coming to a halt.

i have never heard the halls of my school as quiet as they were today. religious leaders, counselors, and staff members alike are offering solace to the students, and in every class, comfort has been put first.

i've been busy enough with graduation coming up but if commissions are taking a long time--longer than they were initially--or if i'm not replying to comments, or being a bit "meh", i've not been feeling too super lately, and i have Wyoming Park's class of 2012 to support. i hope you all can excuse me.

I'm very sorry.. I understand, the day before the entrance exam for my high school placement i got news that two of my elementary school friends were killed in a murder suicide at age 15 and 13. Everything in my life came to a halt and the most important thing for me at the time was to grieve i wish i had gotten counseling offered at my school at the time but it wasn't available.

Riley, I know things are going to be hard. I'm not going to sugar coat it. It's hard to deal with deaths of class mates and it will always leave a scar. I have never lost someone from my school, but there have been horrible accidents where it's a miracle that they survived. It's going to be hard to overcome a devastation such as this...but I know you'll be able to work through it. The families and friends of those you lost will be in my thoughts. Stay strong Riley.
